The Gobbler Grind Marathon is Sanctioned and Certified by USA Track & Field and is eligible as a Boston Marathon qualifier.  Along with the Marathon, there is a Half-marathon and 5K for runners and walkers of all abilities.

In 2010, we had our largest event with over 2,500 registered participants and close to that number in spectators.  A special thanks to the support of hundreds of volunteers, generous sponsors and a tireless race committee.

The Gobbler Grind started as a long run among friends who needed to run off Thanksgiving feast.  After a few years as a fun run, we decided to turn it into a “Real Race” in 1997 and drew 169 participants. 

As the Gobbler Grind continued to grow by word of mouth, we decided to make it a fundraiser and The Safety & Health Council of Western Missouri & Kansas and Toys for Tots and the Marines Corps Reserves stepped in to provide volunteers and/or help coordinate the run.

Accidents are the #1 killer of children and teens in America, with Missouri and Kansas ranking as two of the deadliest states.  With your help, The Safety & Health Council can continue their Educational and Safety Programs for Kids, Teens and in various Workplace Environments.  Year round classes are offered through the Safety & Health Council.

Mission Statement - The Safety & Health Council is a 501c3 Chapter of the National Safety Council, a not-for-profit community service organization which has been serving the area since 1916. Your Council is dedicated to preventing unintentional injuries where ever they occur. Through our outreach and education programs, we are helping to make our community a safer place to live, work and play.
